WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?

Lyme disease is an infection caused by a type of bacteria called a spitochete. It is passed to humans and animals alike by a tick bite. After infection the person will exhibit many different symptoms which can be severe. Lyme disease can not be transmitted from person to person. Only from a tick bite. Not all ticks carry Lyme Disease. Ticks carrying Lyme Disease are most prevalent in the northeast part of the U.S.

STAGES OF LYME DISEASE

Early Stage Lyme Disease can manifest itself with flu-like symptoms. The individual will usually develop a bulls-eye rash either at the site of infection or elsewhere. If caught early, Lyme Disease can usually be treated successfully with antibiotics.
Late -Stage Lyme Disease can come about if it is not treated quickly or efficiently enough. Sometimes the symptoms are not noticed and the disease worsens. These symptoms are more severe including arthritis and heart and lung damage. This stage can usually be treated with antibiotics as well.
